The machine was running normally when we had a power cut. when the power came back on the washer would not finish its cycle nor would the door open.Could it be the door lock or something more serious. Any info would be appreciated

Probably the main control board, you will need a technician to diagnose. Make sure you get a 2000 joule wall mount surge protector or higher to prevent this from recurring. You cannot use a surge protector on a power cord as moisture can get into it and cause an electical fire.
