The pilot light goes out randomly. Why? Can the flame size be increased? I don't know that that is the problem but am wondering if there is some adjustment that can be made to keep the flame burning. This is a Model 606. Closed chamber. I have just replaced my old water heater with this unit, which has not been used before

I'm not aware of flame adjustment. However, if it has a thermocouple make sure it is tight in the gas valve or the thermocouple may be bad. The flame heats the thermocople and this generates a milivolt charge that has an electro-magnetic force that holds the pilot valve open. Also check for a blocked flue.
