Turntables unlike CD's etc need a special socket on an Amp which has an inbuilt pre-amp in it. If your amp doesn't have a dedicated phono socket then you need to get a "Magnetic Cartridge Pre-amp". Search online for those words. If it does have one of these sockets and the sound is still low, then either the cartridge has failed or the inbuilt pre-amp has. This would not effect any other function on your amp.
