If it is an 87 from my understanding there is a "switch" on the column below the steering wheel that can be reset. The sensor is for the catalytc convertor. Auto Zone can only do OBDII scans.
You can take it to the dealer and have it scanned for codes. Some places like Autozone do this for free.
