The shut off valve for the water supply to the toilet failed. I attempted to shut it off because the flush valve assembly in the tank failed. The water shut off to the toilet that is in the basement is really old and not turning. I had to shut off the main valve to the whole house. It seems the flush valve assembly should be pretty easy to replace but what about the valve for the water supply to the toilet? Is that a job for a plumber or could I attempt it?
You can buy valves and fittings at Home Depot and other repair stores that do not require any torching. They only require tightening. Measure the widths of the lines going into and out of the valve and go to the store and tell them that you want a compression fitting valve with the appropriate dimensions. Good luck!
