The hard drive is going bad. You can replace it with any 2.5" laptop SATA hard drive.
If you can, first take the old hard drive out and put it in an antistatic bag. If you don't have one, you can use a ziploc bag. Place it in your freezer and let it sit in there for an hour or two. While the HD is nice and cold, put it back in and the HD should work long enough for you to copy your save data to a USB thumb drive.
When you get the new drive, your PS3 will still boot up just like normal. Just follow directions to format the drive and then you can copy the save data off the drive back onto the PS3.
