The unit doesn't respond to the remote. If I unplug it, it seems to reset. Sometimes it will not even respond to the power button on the unit itself

9 times out of ten its the remote being the issue here try replacing the batteries ir cleaning the front where the remote sensor is that may help it. If you try-ed resetting the remote and still have issues this the remote will need to be replaced.

if it does not respond to the power button and its erratic then i would replace the control module inside this control model connect to the remote via IR sensor so that has got to be the issue.

Is the remote properly programmed?
