I would disagree somewhat that it is okay to have air in the Wet End of a pump, or more specifically, in the Hair & Lint Pot. This is a sign or indication, that you are sucking in air, into the system. A Pool circulation system should be completely free of air, it is a closed system to the atmosphere, or should be.
You either have much higher pressure in the system: a very dirty filter, or a long pressure side run, like maybe a solar system?
Most likely, you have a breach in the integrity of your plumbing in front of the pump. Somewhere between the pool and the pump. The obvious is the plumbing coming out of the ground with valves (?) and then into the pump. Any threaded part of that, should be suspect.
Air bubbles in pump pots or basket filters are common and will not hurt anything. If you are saying the filter pressure gauge is reading 25lbs that is not low but high unless you have a floor cleaning system or a long run with a lot of piping.

Hopefully you don't have a break underground.
good luck
