There seems to be an electrical fault, as when I turn the machine on it kicks back at the electrical box in the hall. Also the fuse in the plug has blown twice

It seems you have a dead short in your washer. Someone will need to repair the washer before you attempt to use it again, this needs to be a certified repair shop.
