Thin vertical line, high tension problem ?
The image is compressed into a thin vertical line about 2-3 inches thick. The very top of this line is more brighter than the rest. I've read the problem could be the vertical output IC... (http://www.fixya.com/ThreadAsker.aspx?thid=3643651#)
Since that post, I have opened the TV and found that when it was opened, the image was fine. When I closed back the lid, the problem was back. So I found that it was the High Tension System (on the bottom right) that was making the problem go on and off. It seems that when the High Tension System was raised (when the backing was on), the problem was present. So I removed and put back the solder at the bottom of the High Tension System. The problem was still there... I don't know what it could be. Now, the TV is laying on the bed (it's very heavy) and I don't know what to do. The only alternative is to put back the backing but not push it all the way and not screw it on. When it's in that position, the problem is not there. But I don't want to keep the TV lid out of course! Thank you in advance for your help.

Is very unlikely that the high tension system would cause the vertical to collapse but for sure there's a cold/crystalized solder joint near or the vertical IC. I would suggest to check the solder joints from the vertical IC as well from the high power resistors or from areas that looks like they a have exposure to overheating components.
The reason that the TV works when the back cover is removed is because the board might be get a bit loose and the solder joints make electrical contact. With the back cover ON, the board sits straight and the slightly movement causes the solder joint to loose its contact.
