This is an olevia 226 s12. it suddenly lost the picture while i was trying to change the channel. i restarted it and got the olevia image, but after a few seconds of the tv program image, it went black. now it gives a short burst of sound after the olevia image, but we can't get anything more. it is about 2.5 years old, and i would hate to have to replace it. the image has been great and it has been very reliable up to now

Thanks for using FixYa. Please check backlight and inverter board. It could also be due to the inverter circuits for the backlights. The inverter is the power supply source for the backlights. There could also be a screen driver problem; if it is then you have to change the entire inverter board. All this is only recommended if you have some kind of expertise for checking the internal circuitry of the TV as these units have high voltages running even when the set is switched off. If you want to do the repair yourself then leave it unplugged for 1hr so that the current drains out from the components.
WELL, AFTER A COUPLE OF HOURS UNPLUGGED AT THE POWER STRIP IT IS NOW WORKING AGAIN.
I AM GRATEFUL, BUT NOT REASSURED.
IN ANY CASE IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, I'LL TRY THAT MANEUVER, AND THEN GET MY SON INVOLVED IF IT DOESN'T WORK.
