This morning I woke up and part of the house was without electricity. I checked the breaker panel and they were all ON. I flipped the ones for the affected areas OFF and ON and still no power. Some actually had a glow in the bulb. Any suggestions??? Is there such thing as a tired or dead breaker?
Try switching the main breaker off all the way then back on, if it has one leg that has reset it could cause your problem. If after resetting the breaker you still have no power on one side then call an electrician as you will need a new main breaker replaced and you may have one of the bus bars burned out, if that's the case you will have to replace the buss bar that the breakers are on on the dead side, or you will have to replace the main breaker.
Breakers can go bad. not normally but the can. The other problem be a loses return power. normally it is the white cables in the systems. if they weren't put in properly one can fall out and then they is no way for the power to flow. So if you want you can buy a new breaker and replace the one to check then you might have to go through all the electrical boxs and check and make sure all the wires are together. best way for this is to TURN OFF POWER first and then go around and open the boxs. where ever there is a twist cap or other connection check it out, normally all this is, is to take the connection point and gentally tug on the cable. if it pulls out your just have to redo connect it. make sure when you reconnect to tug on it to ensure a tigh fit
I know this was a long time ago, but you will not guess what the problem was - a squirrel! Yes, a squirrel had crawled up and made a nest inside the cover on a pole and chewed through on of the cable.s. Needless to say he never lived to tell the story. - RoyI know this was a long time ago, but you will not guess what the problem was - a squirrel!
