Three codes p1670,p0171,andp0174 . p1670 main computer cannot find the a.b.s. computer. I do not think this code alone would bring the check engine light on. But p0171 and p0174 which are engine too lean bank 1 and bank 2 will bring the check engine light on. Took to dealer three times: 1st time they said they found a leaking vacuum canister and two vacuum hoses. It cost me $87. Same codes came back. 2nd time they said fuel pump was insufficient flow. They replaced fuel pump under warranty. Same codes came back. 3rd time to the dealer they said they could not fix the problem and that it would require replacing the wire harness, parts and labor would run$1400. This car will not pass emmisions testing due in two months because check engine light will not stay off. HELP!!!
Did you or someone in your family TOP OFF the gas tank? It's a bad habit that's hard to break. ==== The vacuum canister can be soak with gasoline. The only inexpensive method is to vent the canister in the open air (outdoor overnight). ==== The ABS computer fail is cause by bad ground. Check the grounding strip to the ABS unit. ====
Check this recall on 2004 apply to your vehicle. NHTSA RECALL HISTORY 2004 Verona: A malfunctioning brake-light switch could cause the brake lights to remain on, even without the driver's foot on the brake pedal. Following drivers would not be able to tell when the brakes had been applied, which could result in a crash. The dealer will replace the brake-light switch.
I recommend you to do a front to back and left to right through inspection on
1)the connectors and cables to the transmission.
2)check free play on motor mounts and transmission mount.
3)look for sign of missing ground strip(s) and cable to the ECU.
4)check for air leakage on the plastic tube between the mass air flow sensor (MAF) and the intake manifold. (root cause of un-meter air input that cause lean running condition)
5)check Idle air control motor (IAC) for correct movement warm up the car, check on the RPM. power on A/C,headlight and fans. The rpm should rise by 100-200 rpm. (does not prove anything but it a good test to rule out ECU problem) A metal chaffing / temporarily ground condition can cause you a lot of time to pin point it.
