I was having a similar problems with my sisters TI-83 calculator it wouldnt turn on so I replaced the batteries and then the buttons didnt work at times and i tried some of the suggestion I used compressed air for like cleaning key boards and i also tried removing the batteries, after a couple of attemps the screen had a "mem clear" message then all the buttons started working.
Here's a solution to some of the problesm. It seems that your calculators are lagging or just messed up. These could be cause by water damage or an object getting into your calc or what ever. Try blowing realy hard into the I/O port. It sounds stupid but your problems may be cause by a short there. Blow for maybe 5 seconds and when you turn on your calculator it should start to work again.
I had the same problem. I found that the contacts between the battery compartment and the calculator's circuit board were bad. If the simpler methods don't work, try this:
1. Remove the back-up battery, using a #1 phillips head.
2. Remove the 6 screws from the back panel, located around the perimeter. Mine required a #5 (I believe) allen wrench. However, the one in the upper left (as you look at the back of the calculator) needed a #6. Don't know if that was unique, or if the screwhead had been stripped some.
3. Using a small flat-head screwdriver, place it in between the front and back cover at the very top of the calculator and pop the back up. Do this in two more places, in the middle of the ribbed areas on both sides of the calculator (near the bottom). The back should come off easily.
4. SLIGHTLY bend the two spring contacts from the main battery compartment so that they'll touch a different place on the circuit board pads. You may want to use an eraser on both the springs and the pads. Be gentle on the circuit board pads, and be careful no eraser bits go inside the calculator.
5. Do the same thing for the backup battery leads and pads as well.
6. Snap the back on, replace the 6 allen head screws, and replace all of the batteries.
This worked for me.
