Tiller won't start
I have pulled the gas tank, drained the filter and lines, and emptied the float bowl. I am getting spark and the plug is wet after attempting start. When trying to start the machine is backfiring as evident by blue flame shooting out of air intake. It has started a few times but only runs a second or two.

You may need to perform a rebuild or possibly a good cleaning on the carb. any questions on it feel free to ask
It's not necessarily water the fuel today has a shelf life of about 14 day's then it starts to separate the ethanol is heavier than the gas its self and settles to the bottom which in turn eats and gums up seats, seals and everything else in the carb. I recommend that if any equipment is going to sit for a long period of time to empty the fuel tank and then run the engine till it shuts down to minimize any problems with the carb. Glad to hear you made out ok. Good tilling to ya and any other problems feel free to ask.

Sounds like the needle valve in the float bowl is stuck open and the engine iss flooding. Make sure the valve isn't stuck or that something isn't stuck in it.
