It will ALWAYS be loosen counter-clockwise, on bolts like that...that kind of part is definitely not an application for a LH thread. IE, the usual way. IE, Loosen counter-clockwise,tighten clockwise.. Mazda engine anyway, if it follows the pattern of Ford Courier pickups/Econovan vans here. If it is proving tough to undo, hopefully it is manual trans and you have it in gear with handbrake on. Probably a 19mm bolt/wrench size, right? If not, maybe a 22mm..
