Torpedo pump...I have one when I plug it in...it trips breaker
Torpedo pump...I have one when I plug it in...it trips the breaker.. Cord looks great...pump looks great...only 2-3 years old. Never been out of water while running. Can it be left outside in winter if housing is drained?? Why would it trip?

Same problem. Runs great until I put it in the water...kinda important for a submersible pump. It trips the GFCI. I took it apart and put silicon sealant around wire entry and even ran a bead along the o ring. Not sure if a new o ring is available...local hardware did not have that size. Bottom line... did not work. Frustrating cuz pump starts and runs fine until in the water. Running water in the intake does not trip the outlet. Pump is only 3 years old.
I had the exact same issue. I left mine out for the winter and when I plug it in, the breaker trips. My warranty was up so my friend took it apart. The seal had broken alowing water to leak into the bottom the pump where the wires connect to top of motor. This is supposed to be water free and is protected by several seals.
I am currenlty trying to put sealant where the cord goes into unit to stop water from going in. I will let you know how that works.
One tip my friend recommeded is to make sure there is no stress on the cord as it appears this seal is weak and and kind of stress will break it. hope this helps -- Rob
I am now having the same issue... It was working great, but I unplugged it to clean out the pond for fall clean out... When I was done, I plugged it back in... pump works for about 45 seconds then tris the breaker... I have replaced the outlet and the plug itself, checked all the wiring, and still the same issue... I have never had any problems with my pond systems until now... I have no clue what to do now except to take it apart and check for internal problems... if anyone has had these issues and resolved them, please repost, I can not afford another 10000 gallon pump right now... And this pond is a memorial to my son, who I recently lost...
I have the same problem. This is the second T7500 that operated just fine on a circuit breaker for about 2 1/2 to 3 years and then began to trip the circuit breaker. I believe (although I am not an electrician) that the unit develops an internal short at about 2 1/2 years, which is internal, e.g. not cause by any leak. I say that because the unit will actually run for another 1-2 years on a circuit that does not have a circuit breaker outlet. That is of course a dangerous proposition, and which the instructions strictly prohibit, however, that tells me that there is no internal water leak in the unit causing the short. The short is from something else. Comments?
