Run fault codes and look for a TCM problem. The cat converter has nothing to do with a slipping transmission but dirty / burnt oil and or blocked filter in the transmission will ..Check the oil and if it is not bright cherry red have it replaced along with the filter.
I agree you can take the pan off and repce the filter but the oil is replace by using the transmission pump to suck in a set quantity of the oil. Transmission shops have the equipment and know how to do the job quickly.
