Treo 650 continuous rebotting
My Verizon (PalmOne) of 5 years now (one of the first out) has went into a continuous "palmOne" - "palm POWERED" loop after adding a new appointment record. I have tried a system reset, warm reset to no avail. I can get to the hard reset screen but I have not yet went to the option since I only have a current backup on a third party application using a memory card. Any suggestions?

Palm backups are located in the following directories, depending on which operating system your users run:
- Windows—C:\Program Files\Palm\<username>\ED\Backup\
- Mac OS 9—Macintosh HD:Palm:Users:<username>:Backups
- Mac OS X—<homedir>/Documents/Palm/Users/<username>/Backups/
Restoring these files to the PDA couldn't be simpler. When you HotSync a PDA that has undergone a hard reset, HotSync will compare the two devices. When it sees that the PDA is empty, it will attempt to reload any backup that exists on the PC. Once this data is reloaded, the PDA will ask to do a soft reset. This is simply a restart of the device and doesn't affect any of the newly installed data. This then returns the PDA to working order, with all the data and programs functioning as they were before.
I've found a way to avoid some of these restoration issues by creating a current state backup of my PDA. This is easy to do. Before your next HotSync, rename the Palm Backup file. I usually add the date to the folder name (e.g., Backup 031010). During the next HotSync, a new Backup folder will be created. This Backup folder will contain only those files currently installed on the PDA. This provides for a much cleaner restore should it become necessary. I recommend creating this current state backup every few months, depending on how often you add and remove new program files.
Hi...
There is an article in the palmOne Knowledge Library that may be of assistance: "Getting help with the third-party applications bundled with the Treo 650 smartphone
" is at http://www.palmone.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=18089.
You'll find information there that DataViz has made available an updated Documents To Go v7.0 that addresses some minor issues. Links are supplied. Also, if you click on the support.dataviz.com link there, you can run a search with the term "treo 650" for more aricles within their knowledge base.
Hope that's of help.
Have you tried taking the battery out for a few seconds, then replace it, it might reboot correctly
Hard Reset:
a hard reset. Remember:
A hard reset will erase everything on your smartphone, so make sure your data is backed up before you do this.
Also, you may need to re-enter third-party software registration codes when you restore your data later, so keep these handy or request them from the third-party software vendor before proceeding.
To perform a hard reset:
Press the Battery Door Release button and slide the battery door downward to remove it from your Treo. Do not remove the battery.
Take out the stylus and have it ready.
Hold down the Power/End button.
While still holding the Power/End button, use the stylus to gently press the RESET hole on the back.
You will see palmOne logo and a progress bar first, then a circular Palm Powered logo. Do not release the Power/End button until the second, circular Palm Powered logo appears.
Keep holding the Power/End button during this screen. When you see this screen, release the Power/End button.
Your handheld will ask you to confirm "Erase all data?" Press the Up button on the 5 way navigation control.
Your handheld will ask you to tap three targets, set date and time, and confirm setup. Do this now.
To stop the looping problem you need to rename the Palm Backup folder on your PC to Backup.old. Then do a hard reset to stop the looping and then do another HotSync. This was the only way I could get my Treo 650 to HotSync without going into another looping hell. The problem appears to be a Third Party add-on. There's really no way to go through each add-on in the Backup folder because this folder is large and it's a pain in the ****. Let us all know if this worked.
Good luck !!!
