Turn on your device. Turn up the volume to max setting. Insert the SD card. Do you hear a chime? If you do then the sd card has been recognized by your device. If you do NOT hear a chime then try another card. If you do not hear a chime with another card then there may be an issue with the card slot on the device. It would need to go to Rand McNally support for repairs.
If you hear the chime which confirms the card was recognized then connect your device to your computer. Go to the My Computer option and find the SD card drive. It should say something to the extent of "removable drive". Right click and select the format. Select the FAT32 setting and a quick format is fine. This is done to ensure there is no data on the card and it is formatted correctly.
Once the format is complete select Map Update from the dock. The dock should have no issues recognizing the card and downloading/installing the update.
If you are still experiencing issues please contact Rand McNally technical support.
