Unusual sounds, doesn't show up in My Computer
I have a Fantom GreenDrive, 1TB, and I assume something must have happened to it in transit. When I turn it on, it makes most of the normal startup sounds, but then there is a jamming sound. Then it sounds alright, and the laptop makes the noise like it recognizes the drive, but it never shows up in My Computer.

The hard drive is damaged my friend. Hard drives are very,very, very delicate pieces of equipment. The disk is paper thin and any sudden jarring, sometimes can occur in transit and especially dropping it creates a warp in the drive. Unplug it to prevent further damage. Don't worry in many cases you can have the data retrieved from your hard drive by using this online company that I highly recommend:
