Sounds like you need an updated DirectX driver for your card. Is this message happening with all of your games or just a few? What is the exact card that you have?



If the above is true, I would go out to the card's support site, and find the latest driver, and then install it. I have seen where even after installing the latest drivers for cards there would still be error messages in specific games, and the only way to fix it was to download patches, or run certain commands in order to bypass the files that are causing the error. If it is happening to specific games, my next suggestion would be to go to the game's support site, and see if others are having any of the same issues, or download the latest patches for that game. I am not sure how volatile that virus is, but usually you just can either clean out viruses using software or download a patch and then remove it. I would only install a new OS if my system was seriously "jacked" by a virus, and I would either do a complete clean install over the old system or do an overlay over the existing files, and not install two of the same operating systems together. In the past when I had a virus in Windows XP that I could not remove I would do a roll back on the OS, and then I was usually able to find the virus and go through and manually delete it. I have also deleted viruses in safe mode, but I am not sure if either way is a completely clean way of eradicating the virus.
