Video Player DV220MW9 has recently started turning itself off while either watching a video or recording onto a video tape. This usually messes up the tape. What could cause this?

A slipping clutch, belt or drive wheel tire on the drive sprocket can do this. This is generic information; I don't have service info on this particular model to see which mechanism it uses to turn the drive sprocket.
