Viewsonic P225f CRT - clicking "short circuit" sound, shrinks and expands
WARNING: This is a fairly obscure problem.

I have a Viewsonic P225f CRT monitor, the 22" version. The model number is VCDTS22074-1M. The manufacture date was April 2002.

Conditions: The monitor is on. At any resolution, and any vertical refresh rate, this problem is currently present. It is somewhat sporadic, that is, the monitor can go for a while without having this happen to it. Through my own research, it may be caused by "dirty" electricity(I am currently renting in a very old house).

Problem: Basically, when the monitor is on, I hear a distinct "sparking" or "short-circuiting" sound. The CRT continually turns/clicks and shrinks and expands at a very irregular, almost random, rate. It does it even when turning on or off, now, as well. Sometimes it displays a clean, perfect picture for 10 minutes before doing it once or twice, and then it doesn't happen again for 20 minutes. Other times, like right now, it keeps clicking every second or two.

It is very possible that this is due to dust build-up in within the monitor itself, as I purchased this from a man who stored it in his garage for some time. I will try the air compressor and edit this post to see if that fixes my problem.

If you have further knowledge about CRT tech in general, you might know what is going on here. Please fill me in! Thank you.
