Vivitar 285HV Stop Working
I bought Vivitar 285HV Flash and get it yesterday and I'm using four Energizer Nickel Metal Hydride AA batteries for it. I tried it yesterday by pressing the Open Flash button (the red button at the bottom of the flash) several times just to test it for I don't have my camera with me just to test if it is working. When I tried
the flash again tonight, I saw that it is no longer working. There is
no light (red/green) flashing at the back of my Vivitar 285V. I make sure that the batteries are arrange correctly and was in correct form as it
enters into the battery compartment, but Flash is still not working. I charge the battery and try it again and still does not wok. After that I tried the battery in my other flash (SB600) and the battery works there so it is clear that it is not the battery. I hope anyone would help me with regards to this

There is nothing wrong with your flash unit. The regular AA batters are 1.5 v volts each- if 4 batteries are used that is a total of 6 volts for proper operation. The rechargeable batteries are 1.2 volts each and 4 will get you 4.8 volts- thats 1.2 volts short and that is probably the root of our problem .
Try recharging you rechargeable batteries and put the im one more time- if the same problem happens you will have to stick with standard AA batteries. There external 6 volt packs that will work with your flash unit0 the are a bit of an expense at first but you will save on replacement batteries in the long run,.

The transmitter and BOTH receivers must be on the same channel. If that is not working, clean the battery terminals on the offending receiver and make sure the batteries are in tight and are making contact, If the unit has an external antenna make sure ti is fully extended and not broken. The batteries should also are the proper voltage.
That is all I can suggest without servicing the circuits within the unit. Try some of the above and let me know. Ed
