Volume control program installation
Hi fellow fixya experts:
general question here I just installed a new copy of windows xp home and every thing is fine except my sound icon on the task bar. i can go to the volume control under control panel and adjust it from there but when i try to place it on my taskbar it tells me that i need to go to control panel and install it from there please could sombody advise me on how to exactly do this cause there is nothing about the sound control program in the add programs

Go to the control panel, open the sound and audio.
check the box in front of "place volume icon in the taskbar", under the device volume, in the volume tab page.
go to control panel>>system> hardware manager.
right click on the sound and audio device update driver.
let windows find the driver, and install it.
Go in to your Control Panel. Double click SOUNDS AND AUDIO DEVICES. Check the box near the center that says PLACE VOLUME ICON IN THE TASKBAR. Click APPLY, then OK.
There are instructions at the Microsoft site for fixing this bug.
If the instructions at the Microsoft site don't fix the problem, your volume is controlled by a third party application (like a yamaha program installed with the card.) Many of those will appear in the task bar too, but they don't look the same as the Microsoft icon.
