Is the drain plumbed into a spigot on the sink trap? if so this may be the source of water coming in when appliance not in use. take the drain hose as high as possible in a swan neck under the sink and see if this cures it. other possibility is a leaking inlet water valve but would expect fault then not to be intermittant
