Water softner problem, does not refill water to brine tank
''culligan brine tank valve mark 59'' ok here goes, this may be pretty tough. I have tried for years to get a detailed servise manual and never found one. I have a mark 59 culligan water softner that i bought new in 1982. sure it has some age but so do i and i keep working. there is a 400 pound cap brine tank (5) 80 pounders with a 5/16 water line running over to the ''main unit''. I have to add 1 to 2 gallons of water with a bucket to the brine tank every night for the reg. process because it will not do it auto. When the unit runs its 5 or so processes and it gets to the part to refill the brine tank, it is sending plenty of water pressure to the brine tank, because if I unscrew the supply line it will blow all over the place. The maybe called brine tank valve in side the brine tank is maybe 3 feet tall and pulls out really easy. I have cleaned it and there is no broken or worn parts. There is a plastic ball that floats and serves as a valve I think. When I hook up the supply line to refill there is a noise like bump, and it never refills.
Tired of carrying water, thanks

There is .25 gpm flow restrictor in the top of the float assembly, It may have sediment in it. Unscrew the cap on float top and check the restrictor. When you hook it back up run the system to refill (last cycle) hold the float stem down until all the air is purged from float assembly and see if that works. Also the float ball (foam) may have slipped top too far and is shutting off prematurely. If this does not work it is in the valve which has small pistons, diaphrams and springs to control the cycles. Each cycle also has a solenoid which makes these components work. You will not find a service manual for the Mark 50 valves. They are obsolete unfortunately and parts are no longer available. This valve was made for nearly 40 years and was the hallmark of the Culligan line.
