We are on our 3rd Dyson. Both times we have replaced them it's because the rotating brush quits working after retreiving a string (or tie from an article of clothing) from the brush. Is there a fix for this? I'm stuck with the same problem at the moment and really don't want to have to return this 3rd vac!

It could be the clutch, cheap and easy to replace.
But it could also be the brush control knob is turned off.
