We have a 48 year old Necchi "supernova type SA" sewing machine and the foot pedal stopped working. Turning the switch on the machine on meant the machine ran constantly indicating a short circuit. Disconnecting what looks like a capacitor (carries marking like "pf 100000" and "Vpr (may be Vpf) 3000") makes the foot pedal work. What new 'capacitor' can be purchased to replace the faulty unit and from where? Failing that, were can a replacement pedal be obtained? Thanks

You may want to check with a service technician, but I've read elsewhere that the capacitor may not be needed as it served to reduce electrical interference, ie with a radio...
Dad taught me to service machines when I was about 12. Back then, foot pedals ran on small discs of carbon, and he gave me lots, to service My foot pedal. That was circa 1960. Likely you need a replacement foot pedal. I would look for one on Ebay. Just - where I find all sorts of 'Stuff'.
