WE have a 51 in sony rear projection tv that needed the convergence chips changed. I did that, but after getting it back together it shuts off and the front blinks 8 times. Did I screw something else up in it when it was apart? Any ideas on what to do next (besides kicking it to the curb)??

It sounds like it had mainboard problems probably in addition to the IC... Can you still return those convergence chips? I hope so, I would recommend you just replace the unit, it may have even more problems. A lot of times when convergence ships go it takes other components with it. Will keep researching this for you though.
