We have a brand new Dyna-Glo heater that was purchased some time ago, but we've never used ... until now. I can't even remember where I bought it. PROBLEM: The pilot light comes on for just a few seconds, then goes out. Tried lighting manually; followed instructions to "depress knob for at least 30 seconds .." What to do????
My guess is that there is air in the system and you will have to hold the valve down a little longer and keep trying. Sometimes these things will drive you crazy when they are stubborn. You can also use an air compressor to clean around the pilot light and blow any dirt or debris away from the pilot unit. Or The thermocouple from the burner flame port to the gas valve is bad. Shut your gas supply off, unscrew the small fitting with the small copper tubing coming out of the gas valve. Follow that tubing up to the burner and disassemble the pilot light end from the burner. Home Depot has a good selection normally or you may want to go to a furnace supply. It shouldn't be more than 10 or 15 dollars for the new one. Reinstall, turn the gas back on and make any adjustments to flame location at the burner. This thermocouple has to be in the flame, so make sure it is in the correct position before taking it apart, it may have just gotten jarred enough to be out of position.
The only thing that could be left is the regulator, change that out if all fails, there is nothing left to check if the thinggs in my last post have been checked. My guess is still that the pilot safet is full of debris and needs blown out or the thermocouple is not working or in the wrong place. The only thing that could be left is the regulator, change that out if all fails, there is nothing left to check if the thinggs in my last post have been checked.
