We have a waterco heat pump---electroheat plus--the unit is just over four years old. Our pool filteration pump is Ok with good pump pressure. Our heat pump fan switches on when the pool filter pump is operating, but the heat pump compressor does not switch on,so alas cold swims for the family. This problem only began after trying to start up after being shut down for the winter period. Would very much appreciate your comments.Thankyou. Kind Regards Howard Millard
The most common reason for your compressor not to come on is a low pressure condition with your refrigerant charge. The pool heat pump works in the same way that a unit on your home would work, and if the refrigerant charge is low, the compressor will not come on so as not to damage the compressor. There is a low and high pressure switch on your unit that tells it when this condition is present. Occasionally a selenoid or a relay will cause this problem, but more often it is the refrigerant charge. Have it checked by a heating and a/c contractor and charged to proper levels. I would also suggest that he use a "sniffer" to see where the refrigerant is escaping so you do not have to annually repeat this service. Good Luck! I hope you find this to be very helpful!
