OK, if I understand: 1. You had everything working. 2. It stopped working. 3. You tried to get it working and the symptom was, "no network adapter". Many laptops have a hidden switch that disables wi-fi. It is used for two reasons, one is security, you think you are being hacked, you can quickly flip this switch and isolate your computer and it is flipped when you are running on battery and do not want to waste power. It sounds like you have disabled your wi-fi adapter. start->control panel->system->device manager Do you see your device there?
If windows does not see a hardware device it once saw and you have made no changes to the computer (have not installed any new devices that could be causing a conflict) then it is very likely that you have a hardware problem.
The device is malfunctioning such that windows no longer recognizes it at all. Is the device the sort that fits in an adapter slot? First, with the power off, try unplugging the device from the buss and plugging it back in. I have a seen a hair caught in the buss collector cause intermittent contact, so look for physical excuses for malfunctioning (dirt, hair) when it is unplugged. Then try moving it to a different slot.
If the wi-fi is built into the board, maybe it is just broken. Things happen, and they are not always repairable. You might be able to get the computer working again with a USB wi-fi adapter. If windows does not see a hardware device it once saw and you have made no changes to the computer (have not installed any new devices that could be causing a conflict) then it is very likely that you have a hardware problem.
