We recently purchased a kia sportage used. We had serveral misfires codes. We replaced plugs wires coils and did a valve cover gasket on it. The car runs great now and none of these engine codes have returned. The day we started driving it again the engine light came on with P0440. I wasnt getting this code untill after we did the work on the car. Also now the temperature gauge bounces between low and half. Im not sure if the two are related or not. Where should I go from here? I need to get it inspected as my 10 days are almost up

The temperature .. Did you check the thermostat if its faulty or connected propperly?? Check yur radiator has enogh coolant and your fans come on..
One should be on when your engine starts to go above normal temp the other with the ac on.. Drive with the ac on and then the ac off and see if there is any difference.. If it runs better with the ac on you need to check your fan,, relay and thermostat...
Po440 mean engine service near,, meaning change of timing belt etc.. have this checked and then the error code cleared.
Check the fans as I suggested,, chances are its the thermostat!!
Also Check the cylinder head gasket!!
P0440. is an evaporative emisions control malfunction.
if you just did a fuel pump then you most likely need a fuel pump gasket. Or tighten/replace the gas filler cap.
This will cause the symptoms you are facing.
Check these things
EVAP: Canister purge valve, Canister close valve , Fuel tank pressure
sensor, the canister itself and or all fuel lines.
