In addition to changing the batteries, make sure they are turned the correct way to get proper polarity. Also, clean the unit using canned compressed air with the straw nozzle (like you clean your computer with). The sensor may be clogged with dust and dirt. Keep the canned compressed air as upright as possible when blowing out the detector.
