If your mower runs fine, but dies when the blades are engaged, that has nothing at all to do with the starter - or with the engine. There is a malfunction is in either the electrical system, PTO clutch or one of the safety features somewhere. Check all of the belts first for wear or breakage, then if they're OK, you probably need a small engine mechanic, but it doesn't sound really serious.
You might also check the blade spindle to make sure vines, string or other material is not wrapped around it. Anything that fouls the blade turning will stop the engine immediately. You might also check the blade spindle to make sure vines, string or other material is not wrapped around it.
