A gigabyte is a measure of computer memory or disk space consisting of about one billion bytes. 1GB equals: A 90-minute, standard-definition movie on iTunes A pair of 45-minute TV episodes (again, in standard-def, not HD) ( in HD you'd get one 60 minute Video ) About 200 songs ( I have actually put over 800 songs on a single DVD - 4.7GB) the disc will play for the better part of a day. About 250 pictures (from a 10-megapixel camera) About 500 e-books (assuming they're an average of 2 MB each)
NOTE : if your burning Movies to a disc, use a 4.7 GB DVD (standard size) you probably won't need all of the space ( unless its a BluRay copy) but a CD only has 700mb of storage and all Movies are longer than that and since DVD prices have come down so far that there's really not any difference than the price of a CD. I get them for less than 10¢ apiece at Staples or Office Depot. I hope this helps you get a concept of what a Gigabyte is.
