What to do after installing new hard drive on Gateway Desktop
Hi, I have a Gateway Gt5238e That stopped working ( It wouldn't even go into the OS), so with my fingers crossed, I went ahead & replaced the hard drive. After that I went into the bios & saw that my computer recognized the new drive and that it was the drive that booted first. I have my original windows Xp disc so I inserted that. I get a message to go to recocvery options which I do, I can choose destructive recovery or the other kind ( I've choosen both) The computer goes through the process then says "Drive Not Found" Is there any advice you can give me?

Your machine is looking for the original HD..boot your pc up with the cd that came with machine(restore) but before it gets to the desktop try getting into setup and change the boot sequence to cd rom as 1st boot then hd and so on/ save and exit when it reboots it will ask you..hit a key to boot from cd rom..then you can do as you please
