Check the manual for the embroidery format.
art, exp, sew, and pcs are a few examples of some of the formats.
However, you need the exact format.
You can check allbrands.com for a reader/writer unit with rewritable memory card, but it must be in the correct format for the brand and model of your machine.
With this software, you first create a folder on the PC Hard Drive.
Then download designs from the Internet in the format for your machine and save them to the folder.
You then need to unzip/open the downloads as the software will not recognize the zip format.
You then call up the designs you want to stitch out and send them to the card. The software with the reader/writer will explain this in more detail.
If you find designs that are not the same format as you need, you can convert them to the correct format by using Pulse Ambassador - this is a free down load that you can find on the Internet.
You open the design you want to convert and then save in the format you need.
