What would cause gas to be in a crank case, bike has sat for a little over a year. runs good but is getting fuel in the oil. am i on the right track thinking it is a problem with a sticky float?

Yes sticky float and possible a problem with the fuel tap. It should have a vacumn opperated tap that turns off when the bike is not running.
Try to avoid ethanol fuels
