My ceramic cook top cracked while i was using it. No abuse or misuse. I was heating a pan of olive oil to sear some shrimp, like I have hundreds of time before. All of a sudden I heard a loud crack. Afterwords, I noticed a crack across the burner. Maytag customer service said it was safe to use until I get repaired, but i have seen posts all over the web warning not to use a cracked ceramic cook top. Which is it?

I have never liked a ceramic cook top, though I've lived with three of them (I rent). They are hard to regulate the heat on, never seem to get hot enough, and are hard to keep clean, not to mention the delicate nature of the surface. Simply put, they **** and would advise against purchasing one. However, if you really don't cook much and want form over function, a ceramic stove might be for you.
