What would cause the glass cooktop to crack when nothing was dropped on it. This is the second time this happened the first time we had kids at home but now it is only my husband and I and we know there was nothing dropped on it
Hello- Glass and ceramic tops have been developed over the last 20 years with, yes, 100's of millions of dollars. The physics have never changed, only the price. Not unheard of -multiple failures- . Installs can be tricky. Bottom line- this thin, very large plate of high-tech, expensive glass has a small percentage manufactured that crack while heating or cooling. Keepin mind this range covers 1000deg.! Sorry can't 'solve' this problem, but let me know if this info helps- have more if needed. -Thanks- ED
My ceramic cook top cracked while i was using it. No abuse or misuse. I was heating a pan of olive oil to sear some shrimp, like I have hundreds of time before. All of a sudden I heard a loud crack. Afterwords, I noticed a crack across the burner. Maytag customer service said it was safe to use until I get repaired, but i have seen posts all over the web warning not to use a cracked ceramic cook top. Which is it?
I have never liked a ceramic cook top, though I've lived with three of them (I rent). They are hard to regulate the heat on, never seem to get hot enough, and are hard to keep clean, not to mention the delicate nature of the surface. Simply put, they **** and would advise against purchasing one. However, if you really don't cook much and want form over function, a ceramic stove might be for you.My ceramic cook top cracked while i was using it. No abuse or misuse.
