What year or years did briggs in stratton make bad engines......trouble with throwing rods. And how do you know if thats the problem. How does it sound when it happens? Will the engine turn over?
Its of my opinion that B/S never made a "bad" engine , sure they had some troubles here and there over the years with there sub contractor suppliers getting them well made parts , "throwing a rod" means the piston connecting rod disconnects from the crankshaft or piston , either item is bad as space is very critical in there so it wont have any room to move around , if you remove the spark plug and engine allows you to move it (it cant start) then chances are good that you've not had this problem happen to your engine and your need to look at the compression unloader , also after reinstalling plug if allows you to start it then 4 sure your gonnna need work on your compression unloader as this is the #1 item on engines over 10 hp that needs attention

ck to see if its pushing back at the intake as its turning over , if so you've had a valve bend , this most times requires a new block as the thing that holds/guides the valves tend to crack when this happens , B/S "short blocks" are not too expensive and ive changed a few here and thereck to see if its pushing back at the intake as its turning over , if so you've had a valve bend , this most times requires a new block as the thing that holds/guides the valves tend to crack when this happens , B/S "short blocks" are not too expensive and ive changed a few here and there
