What's shorting my new battery?
With a new battery installed, when I try to start the bike the battery voltage quickly goes from 12v to 4v and the bike will not start. It takes a few minutes for the battery to recover and produce 12v again. What could be causing the battery to short on startup?

Starter clutch not releasing (It is a one way clutch) or bad brushes in the stater. Viragos are known for bad starters. Check and see if the starter is hot after you try to start it.If it is you should remove starter and have it checked /rebuilt or repaced
