If you've been doing your normal services at their intervals, they should have been getting checked regularly. If not, wow, it's time! If you're a DIY'r, there are plenty of guides around that will teach you how to do it yourself. The basic theory to keep in mind is that you want a certain gap between the arm and the shim both when the valve is going to open, and when it is going to close. You do this by measuring the existing gap, then the thickness of your shim. Then you buy a thicker / thinner shim as needed to achieve the specified gap.
Tools you will need to do this yourself are: Basic hand tools / Hex keys Crank turning tool (http://www.ca-cycleworks.com/shop/catalog/ducati/maint.html) shim measuring caps
Also, it is DEFINATELY time to change your cam belts.
