When I connect my hard drive smart disk to my computer, it doesn't appear at the desktop of my computer (it should appear there because the way I had programmed my computer). I also looked some other folders of my computer for it, nothing. The fire-wire sign of the hard drive goes on intermittently in orange, stays on only for a second, then stops a few seconds and goes on again only for a second... and like this, on and on, but I cannot find the hard drive logo in my computer to open it and see its content. Hi Liz:) this could be the end of the drive or it could be somthing simple like a bad usb cable or port. im assuming you are using a windows operating system. first attach the external drive to your computer. then goto start menu and right click on "computer"(my computer for XP)/ select manage/ select storage/ select disk management/ now look for your drive. if you don't see it try a different usb port(s). if you still cant see it try a different usb cable(s). if none of this works try plugging the external drive into another computer just to be sure but if none of this works then the drive is shot sorry:( hope this helps but if you have any more questions just ask:)
