When I drive forward and move the joystick to center the chair is still moving for the few fit before stops
Hello, I'm trying to bring back to life an old Invacare Arrow Storm for the friend who's got Parkinson D. and cannot move around by himself. Everything went more or less O.K. except one thing : when I drive forward and move the joystick to center the chair is still moving for the few fit before stops, I've measured of brake coils and in both motors it is 75 Ohms. If the brake is applied by electromagnetism, power must be supplied to the coils by either manual or electronic switching.
I suggest you investigate the circuit to discover how the power should be supplied to the brake coils and then it will be easier to trace the fault.
As a matter of not unrelated interest, it is fairly usual to arrange the wiring/switching so when power isn't being supplied to a low voltage DC motor the motor terminals are shorted. When being pushed the motor becomes a generator and the input becomes and output and so shorting that output makes the motor self-braking to some extent - this is why car windscreen wipers are able to stop almost instantly...
