When I insert the DVD is does not give me any instructions to follow. I am connected to the internet. I am never prompted to give my unique serial number or anything else. I have downloaded something off the DVD and placed a shortcut on my desktop. When I click it nothing happens except the typical page that tells me I am not connected to the internet and I know that is not right. Any help would be appreciated. John

I think the issue is your pc is not detecting a new disk in the drive. hence, it is not trying to run the Auto run for the DVD.
Just try right clicking on the dvd drive from explorer and see any option that will indicate 'Autorun' and click on it.
If not just check what it shows on the root directory of the DVD and see if there is any file that reads Autorun or start or something similar, then double click on it to get started yourself.
