When I place a tape in my Onkyo Integra TA2047 before I press any buttons it makes a humming noise. The reverse and FF work fine but when I push the Play button it starts rolling then slowly stops. I opened up the unit and it appears that as soon as I place the tape in the deck the belt starts running with no buttons depressed. At first I thought it was just a belt but now it appears to be more. Any help?

It can be a number of things. There are some models that are suppose to run the capstan when a tape is in and some unit that only run when the play is pushed. The proper operation and speed as well as cleaning can all be done by a Tape Deck Technician.
