i put a small 4.3gb drive into my pc today and it shows in the bios but not on the system once windows has booted. my drive is corrupted. is this the same problem as yours? have you got a faulty drive? it may not be able to fix. i will look for some hard drive checking software for you. you may be able to pull it back. i will post back soon.

an operating system on a slave drive would not be an issue because there is no boot log for dos to enter onto that drive for system information. are you plugging this in while the computer is running? have you been into bios and auto searched for new drives before boot up? try removing your cd player(that works) and use that ide plug and power connection to try the hard drive. then if the drive works you can start with the cheap parts to test first, the IDE cable being just a few pence. if your drive does not work or does the same error in the cd ide come back and i will run through a few more things with you.

It is more likely that if you have a system installed on it that you still have the jumpers set to MASTER. you need to change them to SLAVE.
